To see a fan game with completed development is nice, I do think it needs to be less bashed and more constructively criticized. The story isn’t much to write home about either, it very much seems like tumblr fan fiction, I do like that they tried to reference and connect other sonic games or media, which is something you don’t see sega do often. Eggman doesn’t not sound like Eggman and Shadow is not Shadow. Voice acting is not that great either, Sonics voice is fine, you can tell it’s sonic. The boss fights are terrible you’re either fighting the awful camera or the poor balancing. Some levels are a blast to play, some made me put it down and walk away. But aside from that, it’s not that great. Well it’s one of the few complete fan games. Sonic games ever since generations have been lacking in one form or another and a lot of fans just want an adventure like unleashed or the original adventure games, so in my opinion? This game gives us a taste of that and as I said has a lot of room for improvement.
Oh and I love how shadow has to make use of his chaos powers for platforming and puzzles because that's CLEVER and CREATIVE. Some may say mixing adventure style and boost style is a bad idea but I would have to disagree because having watched someone with skill play the game at least 3 times it's clear to me that the boost is like a tool to be used and not a move to be overly spammed like in sonic unleashed or generation. The hate this game gets is genuinely overblown if I'm being honest. Overall it's a decent fan game and I am glad we got this. That said my main criticism would have to be the voice acting and some of the bosses come off as a bit cheap so those could be improved.
It's fun to watch, the ideas are solid(with a lot of room for improvement) and it feels like a genuine love letter to the adventure games and sonic unleashed.įull disclosure: I DONT CARE ABOUT THE PATREON THING!
